28 Apr Round 3 – Winton Raceway
Round 3 Winton Motor Raceway came to a close with great weather and racing. Starting 10th on the grid out of 26, Cambridge Olivier finished Race 1 in 8th and Race 2 in 11th position. The first chicane at Turn 1 and 2 proved to be a challenge for all classes throughout the weekend.
Day 2 Qualifying of the race weekend started with slight overcast at Winton Motor Raceway. Cambridge completed Q1 in positive rhythm ,positioning him in 11th place. He was able to execute a time one hundredth off yesterday’s personal best performance.
Minor mishap occurred in Q2 when the bike’s chain snapped off mid session at turn 10. Fortunately, Cambridge was able to keep the bike upright to reach the side of the track. A well composed team worked effectively and Cambridge was able to recover to pit lane relatively quick. Coincidentally, a red flag being signaled when Cambridge pitted in and back out onto the track, gifted sufficient time of around 13mins to chase a flying lap. We hope riders caught up in the separate incidents will be fit and well for the remaining weekend.
Unfortunately, despite hours spent on it, the bike faced problems similar to Phillip Island and Wakefield Park after 1 lap. As a result, leaving us with only one main bike (dry) for the rest of the weekend.
The last time Cambridge raced at Winton Motor Raceway was August last year with the quickest time of around 1min 26.5 secs. After altering bike set up and tyre choice in between sessions, Cambridge executed a new personal best of 1m 25.5secs by the end of Free Practice 3, placing Sydney West Riders Racing in 9th position.
